Provence has a number of characterful, warmly spicy oaked red wines made mostly from Mourvèdre, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The late-ripening varietys of these grapes can in the warm climate be relied upon to ripen fully almost every year. The quality of the red wines is good enough to be enjoyed in youth, but the best also have the capacity for long ageing.
The red wine grapes used at Château Clarettes are: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan and Merlot.
